Kill Your Kids and Get Sympathy

A sick 29 year-old South Carolina woman murdered her two sons by suffocation on Monday morning, and dumped them in the North Edisto river.  This time it was the local police department jumping to the murderer's defense, shifting the blame, and making excuses.  In spite of the grisly killings, and the fact that the perpetrator, Shaquan Duley, initially lied to police about what happened, hyper-Liberal cnn.com offered this as the story's headline: Police: Dead kids' mom fought with grandma over parenting.

In addition to purportedly taking heat from her mother, Duley was described as "financially desperate", "overwhelmed", and suffering from unemployment.  Orangeburg County Sheriff Larry Williams even praised the killer, saying she, "has been basically a good mom."  Williams also provided this jumbled statement about Duley: "We believe that her thoughts were for me to be free and to do what I wish to do, whatever that may be, if I didn't have the children, I will get rid of them."

The incident does have broader implications for our society.  Most prominently, it makes one wonder why we continue to support a welfare system that financially rewards poor women for having more babies that they cannot or will not take care of.  The murders also offer another example of how poverty, destitution, and crime are the correlative outcome of a family environment in which the father is nowhere to be found.  Shaquan Duley is black, and sadly, between 70% and 80% of black children in America grow up without the presence of their biological father.  Discussing these societal ills is logical and necessary, but only after the criminals are dealt with appropriately by the law and in the media.  In this case, Shaquan Duley has been excused and explained to the brink of complete exoneration.

The fallout from these killings is, in a way, very reminiscent of the Omar Thornton saga a few weeks ago.  The procedure works like this: First, horrific crimes are committed by a protected minority (crimes that ordinarily are universally derided as savage and completely inexcusable). Next, the media, police, and other talking heads jump through hoops to offer endless explanations for why the criminal was driven to such lenghts, and most of the conditioned American public takes the bait.  Lastly, the incident fades into memory, brushed off until the next crime ripe for a twisting inevitably comes up.

Discussing recent news events that have brought anti-white racism to the foreground, Senator James Webb (D-VA) has penned an article debunking the myth of "white privilege."  Webb points out that although the original rationale for so-called affirmative action is not applicable at all to many of the current beneficiaries:

Forty years ago, as the United States experienced the civil rights movement, the supposed monolith of White Anglo-Saxon Protestant dominance served as the whipping post for almost every debate about power and status in America. After a full generation of such debate, WASP elites have fallen by the wayside and a plethora of government-enforced diversity policies have marginalized many white workers. The time has come to cease the false arguments and allow every American the benefit of a fair chance at the future.

I have dedicated my political career to bringing fairness to America's economic system and to our work force, regardless of what people look like or where they may worship. Unfortunately, present-day diversity programs work against that notion, having expanded so far beyond their original purpose that they now favor anyone who does not happen to be white.

In an odd historical twist that all Americans see but few can understand, many programs allow recently arrived immigrants to move ahead of similarly situated whites whose families have been in the country for generations. These programs have damaged racial harmony.

The injustices endured by black Americans at the hands of their own government have no parallel in our history, not only during the period of slavery but also in the Jim Crow era that followed. But the extrapolation of this logic to all "people of color"—especially since 1965, when new immigration laws dramatically altered the demographic makeup of the U.S.—moved affirmative action away from remediation and toward discrimination, this time against whites. It has also lessened the focus on assisting African-Americans, who despite a veneer of successful people at the very top still experience high rates of poverty, drug abuse, incarceration and family breakup.

Those who came to this country in recent decades from Asia, Latin America and Africa did not suffer discrimination from our government, and in fact have frequently been the beneficiaries of special government programs. The same cannot be said of many hard-working white Americans, including those whose roots in America go back more than 200 years.

Webb also points out that such blanket categorizations as "white" and "nonwhite" are not useful in determining who is "historically disadvantaged."

Contrary to assumptions in the law, white America is hardly a monolith. And the journey of white American cultures is so diverse (yes) that one strains to find the logic that could lump them together for the purpose of public policy.

A recent NORC Social Survey of white adults born after World War II showed that in the years 1980-2000, only 18.4% of white Baptists and 21.8% of Irish Protestants—the principal ethnic group that settled the South—had obtained college degrees, compared to a national average of 30.1%, a Jewish average of 73.3%, and an average among those of Chinese and Indian descent of 61.9%.

Policy makers ignored such disparities within America's white cultures when, in advancing minority diversity programs, they treated whites as a fungible monolith. Also lost on these policy makers were the differences in economic and educational attainment among nonwhite cultures. Thus nonwhite groups received special consideration in a wide variety of areas including business startups, academic admissions, job promotions and lucrative government contracts.

Not only that, but as was discussed a couple days ago on this site, many "elite" universities discriminate against low income and rural whites, as well as those engaged in activities such as 4-H (a farming program) and JROTC (a program run by the military).

Attempting to navigate the varied and diverse histories of the ethnic groups which make up America in order to parcel out special advantages and penalties, is nigh impossible, even if it were desirable, not to mention the each person's unique family history. This statement by Senator Webb sums up my thoughts:

Our government should be in the business of enabling opportunity for all, not in picking winners.

The ever vigilant Pat Buchanan is on target again, this time regarding a disturbing phenomenon that has been taking place in the admissions offices at elite universities throughout the country.

According to Buchanan's latest piece for World Net Daily, the multicultural miasma has clouded admissions policies to such an extent that it can only be likened to a racialist caste system in which those of European or Asian origin are handicapped at ridiculous rates when compared to their Black and Hispanic peers.

Buchanan cites as evidence a recent study revealing the prejudice in America's elite universities. The results have been summarized by Princeton Professor Russell K. Nieli, who states, "To have the same chance of gaining admission as a black student with a SAT score of 1100, a Hispanic student otherwise equally matched in background characteristics would have to have 1230, a white student a 1410, and an Asian student a 1550."

Often times I am asked what Youth for Western Civilization is standing against when we cite our opposition to radical multiculturalism. If this is not a clear enough example, I am not sure what else is.

Apparently elite schools are even demanding that the extracurricular activities a prospective student is involved in adhere to the leftist worldview.  Participating in a more traditionalist extracurricular such as a junior ROTC Program, Future Farmers of America, or a 4-H Club can in fact hinder your chances at admittance to most upper echelon universities.

According to Dr. Nieli, "Excelling in these activities is 'associated with 60 or 65 percent lower odds on admissions."

Western Society has been built on the backbone of the highly intelligent individuals who were imparted with a classical education and willed themselves to greatness through the strength of their character. Learning about their culture and history endowed them with both a sense of where they came from and with an awareness of the responsibilities that were placed bestowed upon them.

In a world where we continue to promote individuals predicated upon such ridiculously biased standards at the expense of the actual content of one’s mind, is it any wonder our society is in its current condition?

Update on The Group of 88

In the introduction to a recent Western Resistance Radio show, Kevin DeAnna accurately pointed out:

Leftists can protest, use extreme rhetoric, flaunt radical connections, and even use violence.  No one will care.  The double standard is there because leftists are the establishment.  The establishment actively favors what is happening to this nation.  They are in power -- we are occupied.  Recognize that, and you'll be ready to start mobilizing for real change in this country. (emphasis added)

Case in point, the "Group of 88" professors from Duke University Lacrosse trial.

The Group of 88 were the professors who illegally used department money to place an ad in the Duke University newspaper, The Chronicle.  But this wasn't just any ad.  It condemned the lacrosse players, called the scandal a "social disaster," and quoted anonymous students condemning supposedly omnipresent racism and sexism on campus.

More background information can be found here.

According to a recent article by KC Johnson, four years after the spring when they willingly tarnished the reputation of Duke's lacrosse players the Group of 88 seem to be doing fairly well for themselves.

Here is just a sample of what the Group of 88 is up to these days:

A few years ago, Cornell University spokesperson Thomas W. Bruce rejoiced that the Ivy League school had brought to Ithaca a man whose "distinguished background in contemporary global cultural studies," and whose "unique perspectives and talents" would "add to the range of reasoned intellectual discourse at Cornell."

The professor about whom Bruce gushed was Grant Farred, [who] had wildly charged that unnamed lacrosse players had committed perjury...Cornell knew this record of contempt for the students he taught when it not only awarded Farred a tenured position, but promoted him to full professor, with a median salary of $154,300.

...Charles Payne, who violated Duke rules by authorizing departmental funds to pay for the Group of 88's ad, is now Frank Hixon Professor at the University of Chicago....Payne's most recent book, Teach Freedom: Education for Liberation in the African-American Tradition, is an edited volume published by Columbia Teachers' College Press; it features contributions from self-described "educator-activists" on how principles of African-American "liberation" education remain relevant today.

Houston Baker...The race-baiter who---after Mike Nifong's case collapsed---still denounced a lacrosse parent as "mother of a 'farm animal'" is now Distinguished University Professor at Vanderbilt. His behavior in the lacrosse case seemingly did nothing to lessen Baker's credibility in academic circles (Vanderbilt featured a conference last year with the "distinguished professor" opining about the 2008 election); or those with similar ideological outlooks, such as NPR, which gave Baker space to attack other black intellectuals for having betrayed their cause.

These are the types of professors that conservative students face on campuses across the country on a daily basis.  Unfortunately, many students feel they are powerless to fight against them, which is why Youth for Western Civilization is necessary.

Youth for Western Civilization gives these students a network of likeminded individuals that fight the political correctness and leftist double standards on campus.

Students, join Youth for Western Civilization to become part of the movement on your campus.
