Tim Dionisopoulos

Tim Dionisopoulos

Tim Dionisopoulos is a junior at Providence College majoring in political science.  He currently is the president of the Providence College chapter of YWC, which is recognized by the national organization but not the school.

The ever vigilant Pat Buchanan is on target again, this time regarding a disturbing phenomenon that has been taking place in the admissions offices at elite universities throughout the country.

According to Buchanan's latest piece for World Net Daily, the multicultural miasma has clouded admissions policies to such an extent that it can only be likened to a racialist caste system in which those of European or Asian origin are handicapped at ridiculous rates when compared to their Black and Hispanic peers.

Buchanan cites as evidence a recent study revealing the prejudice in America's elite universities. The results have been summarized by Princeton Professor Russell K. Nieli, who states, "To have the same chance of gaining admission as a black student with a SAT score of 1100, a Hispanic student otherwise equally matched in background characteristics would have to have 1230, a white student a 1410, and an Asian student a 1550."

Often times I am asked what Youth for Western Civilization is standing against when we cite our opposition to radical multiculturalism. If this is not a clear enough example, I am not sure what else is.

Apparently elite schools are even demanding that the extracurricular activities a prospective student is involved in adhere to the leftist worldview.  Participating in a more traditionalist extracurricular such as a junior ROTC Program, Future Farmers of America, or a 4-H Club can in fact hinder your chances at admittance to most upper echelon universities.

According to Dr. Nieli, "Excelling in these activities is 'associated with 60 or 65 percent lower odds on admissions."

Western Society has been built on the backbone of the highly intelligent individuals who were imparted with a classical education and willed themselves to greatness through the strength of their character. Learning about their culture and history endowed them with both a sense of where they came from and with an awareness of the responsibilities that were placed bestowed upon them.

In a world where we continue to promote individuals predicated upon such ridiculously biased standards at the expense of the actual content of one’s mind, is it any wonder our society is in its current condition?

Go here to read Buchanan's take on the subject.

A friend sent me this news story from the Associated Press:

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – Arthur Furano voted early — five days before Election Day. And he voted often, flipping the lever six times for his favorite candidate.

Furano cast multiple votes on the instructions of a federal judge and the U.S. Department of Justice as part of a new election system crafted to help boost Hispanic representation.

Voters in Port Chester, 25 miles northeast of New York City, are electing village trustees for the first time since the federal government alleged in 2006 that the existing election system was unfair.

Although the village of about 30,000 residents is nearly half Hispanic, no Latino had ever been elected to any of the six trustee seats, which until now were chosen in a conventional at-large election. Most voters were white, and white candidates always won.

Federal Judge Stephen Robinson said that violated the Voting Rights Act, and he approved a remedy suggested by village officials: a system called cumulative voting, in which residents get six votes each to apportion as they wish among the candidates. He rejected a government proposal to break the village into six districts, including one that took in heavily Hispanic areas.

Apparently it is now acceptable to alter any conventional voting system so long as diversity is at stake. The article explicitly states that this change was spurred by the desire to increase Hispanic voting power. The Orwellian phrase “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others” comes to mind.  As much as the Left likes to spout high hosannas to the premise of equality, underneath it's merely a strategy to advance their own political interests. With developments like these already occurring, the political dynamics of the future have been written on the walls for all to see.

You can read through the rest of the article here.

In the aftermath of the Arizona immigration law, Representative Peter Palumbo (D-16) the Deputy Majority Leader and a longtime foe of illegal immigration, decided to introduce a similar bill to the Rhode Island House of Representatives.  Representative Palumbo’s bill did not go without attention, making headlines around the country ranging from CNN.com to an interview on Fox News with Neil Cavuto.

Of course upon hearing of this bill radical leftists arrived on the scene to stage an unruly demonstration in the middle of the House Floor.  They entertained the legislature by whining until escorted out by Capitol Police.  Interestingly, Representative Douglas Gablinske, who was on the floor at the time, commented of the protesters, “I didn’t remember any Latinos there; I don't remember any African-Americans. What I remember was a group of mostly younger people -- white, Caucasian who were milling about" (CNN.com).

Given such “hostile” pressure, House Speaker Gordon Fox decided to table the legislation which was up to twelve cosponsors on the grounds that this was an issue for the federal government to solve.  Apparently Speaker Fox did not receive the memo that a recent NY Times poll indicates that over 60% of Americans support the new Arizona law.  He must be too busy trying to balance the budget for the end of session that includes between 150-350 million tax dollars annually that go to social services specifically for illegal aliens (stated by Palumbo in his interview with Cavuto).

Refusing to back down in the face of Speaker Fox’s pathetic excuse, Representative Palumbo organized a protest at the steps of the Statehouse with the Rhode Island Tea Party, right wing Tenth Amendment Activists, and Rhode Islanders for Immigration Law Enforcement (RIILE).  It was an impressive turnout with around 150 vibrant supporters attending even though the rally took place at 4PM while most people are still in work.

Rhode Islanders at the rally were generally unified in their opposition to Speaker Fox, and the fact that the Rhode Island General Assembly is too cowardly to actually take a firm stance on what is a very important issue.  The general feeling I received after speaking with a wide variety of people was that even the more pragmatic Republicans and moderate conservatives who would normally balk on this issue were coming out in support of this piece of legislation.

The rally then moved into the statehouse rotunda where rousing speeches were given by Terry Gorman, the Founder and Director of RIILE, local radio show hosts Jon Depetro and Helen Glover, and a variety of other activists. I even managed to meet a couple of reporters and get a quick interview with a local radio station.

It was an interesting rally with a few important points of interest.  One is that YWC is definitively on the map, and that we are a known quantity to both friend and foe alike.  A number of the leftists sifting through the crowd kept taking photos of me once they recognized the logo on the shirt.

Additionally, a number of random activists from around the state who I never have met before came up and recognized the organization and voiced their support for our mission statement.  I even met a faculty member at Providence College who will go unnamed who told me he had been a long time supporter of YWC and deplored the current state of the college.  This is fairly typical.  YWC's support is like an iceburg -- we have a huge number of supporters who are worried about their jobs or academic status and feel they can only endorse us silently.

The tide is definitely on our side, and if Rhode Island is any indication, Americans are truly ready to take their country back.  With courageous politicians like Peter Palumbo, and an army of dedicated activists, there is no reason to allow the political class to ignore our concerns while our country is thrown into the trash heap of history.

Leftists Attempt to Smear Rand Paul

Maddow Attacks Rand Paul

Dr. Rand Paul’s rise constitutes a remarkable breakthrough for the Tea Party movement. Echoing his father, Representative Ron Paul, Rand has come out of nowhere to raise millions of dollars in his insurgent campaign to become Kentucky’s next U.S. Senator. Despite facing a primary challenge from Trey Grayson who was given the blessings of the D.C. establishment, Rand absolutely dominated the primary election, propelled by Tea Party support for his powerful blend of libertarianism and right-wing populism.

Fresh across the finish line with a cascade of momentum behind him, Rand Paul is no longer seen as an outlandish underdog. Frightened of this eminent threat to status quo, the Left understands that now is the time to unleash the politically correct hounds on Rand’s campaign.

In interviews with the left-leaning Louisville Courier Journal and NPR's All Things Considered, Rand Paul made the cardinal error of stating that he would have opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 on the grounds that it violated the Constitution and prohibited the rights of property owners to discriminate. Although this is actually a well-thought-out position touted by the likes of Barry Goldwater, Paul ruffled the feathers of the political correct czars that regulate discourse in this country.

Later, during an appearance on the Rachel Maddow Show, over ten minutes was spent discussing this topic instead of the astounding developments of Paul’s campaign, his platform, or some of the more pressing issues that his meteoric rise has brought to the forefront.  Despite making numerous assurances that he personally would take a stand against any form of segregation if it happened in his community, Rand was continually pressed on the issue. Maddow and her leftist cohorts at MSNBC smelled blood and went after Paul like sharks.

What Rand Paul and many of the more egalitarian-oriented libertarians fail to understand is that the current managerial regime is not utilitarian. When it comes to racial and cultural issues, you either agree with them 100% of the way or you're clearly gearing up in white hoods and bedsheets, prepping for the reinstitution of Jim Crow. Pleading that you are against "the state" will not save you.

Now I would be pretty surprised if the average Kentucky constituent who is inclined to vote Republican understands the intricacies of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 or really cares about Paul's lack of enthusiasm for it. Instead of putting his foot down and turning the tables on Maddow, Rand Paul fell into her trap and actually tried to explain his way through the question. That was a mistake. What the Right needs to understand is that there is nothing to gain by answering their ridiculous questions and legitimizing their concerns.

If the Right doesn't learn how to fight back and resist, Leftist pressure campaigns will become even more intense in the future.

Rand Paul is a great guy, and I hope for the sake of his candidacy that the next time this happens he will take them on and challenge them on the legitimacy of his positions and the relevancy their obsessions have to the contest. Until Rand Paul and every other right-thinking politician learns that they should never apologize for their principles, they will remain stuck in the paradigm that the leftists have created for them.

Providence YWC Alive and Well

The Providence College Chapter of Youth for Western Civilization which is recognized by the national organization, but not by the school itself, had a presence at two events hosted on the campus of Providence College this past weekend.  The first event was an on campus speech this past Friday featuring Dr. Mike Adams, a maverick UNC-Wilmington Professor of Criminal Justice.   Dr. Adams, a columnist for Townhall.com, and a nationally recognized pundit and conservative commentator, spoke about what it means to be a conservative on college campuses in an environment dominated from top to bottom by leftists.

Dr. Adams gave another speech the next day at the College Republican Federation of Rhode Island’s annual convention.  Aside from College Republicans from around the state, the convention also saw members of Youth for Western Civilization from the University of Rhode Island on scene to help promote the organization alongside members of the Providence Chapter.  After Dr. Adams's second speech, I presented him with a YWC shirt in gratitude of his support for the organization, and the personal advice that he gave to the members of our chapter during our dinner with him on Friday.

Although I am still the President of Providence YWC, I am also the Chairman of the Providence College Republicans, which has provided me with the opportunity to lead and meet two fine groups of young activists throughout the year.   I am also happy to announce that I will continue in this capacity with the College Republicans as one of the three higher ranking members of our new leadership team, in addition to continuing to serve as the President of Providence YWC.

I would like to personally thank Mr. Patrick Coyle and the wonderful folks at the Young Americans Foundation, in addition to my fellow Providence College Republicans who helped to organize and fund Dr. Adams's events.  A special thanks to the College Republican Federation of Rhode Island for allowing me to speak regarding the importance of creating numerous conservative organizations on campus to combat leftists, as well as the important strides that Youth for Western Civilization has made in the past year.

Although YWC members heard many fantastic speeches throughout the weekend, the highlights were Dr. Adams presentations.  Dr. Adams vibrant nature, combined with his erudition and hard hitting points, along with a humorous edge always brimming at the top, made for a wonderful learning opportunity for members of Providence YWC. Aside from illustrating the evils of cultural Marxism, the myth of left wing tolerance, and the harm that institutionalized inculcation of entire ethnic groups as victims does to the marketplace of ideas, Dr. Adams touched upon issues that were very specific to activists on hostile college campuses.   His emphasis on the seemingly daunting challenges that one continually faces when daring to defy the status quo and voice an opinion were extremely pertinent to the challenges facing our unofficial chapter of Youth for Western Civilization.

One of his anecdotes that particularly stood out detailed a public university where a group of young activists were continually pestered by their administration and discriminated against by the imposition of free speech zones that only applied to their conservative organization.  Instead of balking in the face of adversity, the members contacted Dr. Adams who helped them expose their administrators, contact lawyers, and help file lawsuits against the school.  As it turned out, the suits never made it to court as the administrators changed their rules regarding “free speech zones” admitting that they knew they were doing something illegal and were waiting for someone to challenge them on it.

As such, Dr. Adams challenged all activists to continue their fight, and to never acquiesce to the ridiculous hurdles thrown at them. Dr. Adams stated that although members of private universities who face discrimination from their administration do not always have the legal avenues that those at a public institution possess, one can always shame a school in the marketplace of opinion through the utilization of media outlets and public pressure.

After regaling us with a few more tales of his battles with leftist administrators, protestors, and even the occasional backyard varmint, Dr. Adams quoted Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis when stating to the audience that sometimes “Sunlight is the best disinfectant”.  The struggles at Providence College clearly show that the arbiters of power know that the multicultural indoctrination that is occurring on college campuses is absurd and that the lies they keep spewing need only to be brought to daylight for their falsity to wane.

The country at large is realizing that they can do the same to their managerial elites, and that if they challenge their stranglehold, then it is possible for the common sense solutions to emerge.  We can clearly see this with the new immigration law instituted in Arizona, and with the possibility that it could spread to Texas and other surrounding border states, there is a real possibility for political change to begin.

As Dr. Adams stated though, for every five conservative students on campus, only one will become an activist and take a stand.  Dr. Adams termed the other eighty percent of those who refuse to stand up as cowards unwilling to fight for their convictions.  Youth for Western Civilization has always prided itself on being part of that one out of five that is willing to stand up for what the rest of the conservative movement merely uses as talking points.   Just because the other eighty percent of those remaining silent are not speaking out now, does not mean there is not the potential for them in the future.

As our chapter at Providence College is proving, the irrelevant approval of the powers that be is not necessary for our voices to be heard.  The crucial thing is that we do stand up, so that the others out there who are currently silent will hopefully have the gall to actually fight for their own preservation.  Given the dire position our campuses and country is currently in, none of us have the right to remain silent if we wish to preserve what’s left of our once great nation.
